I realize this maybe a no brainer but I just wanted to to state the fact.
Why Go Pro?
A lot of colleagues within the freelance industry have GMail accounts that they use as their main accounts, including most of my interns here at Red Media Design. In this article I’m going to point out why it important for you to have an email from your own domain. The bottom line is professionalism here. I say let GMail be your personal account.
It’s Important To Stand Out!
The first thing I look at when people are applying to work with me is where the email is coming from. Once I see that the client who has emailed with a custom address I know 2 things:
- The Client Already Has A Website – So they won’t be interested in building from the ground up. This is important to know if you’re in the same business that I’m in.
- I Have A Resource – I now know that the client has their own domain, and I can check it out to see if it’s a launch page, a fully fledged site or a portal to connect a social network like MySpace or Facebook.
Windows Live Mail Connects
Using Windows Live Mail, you’re able to add all your email accounts into one simple application, this is the program I suggest all of my clients and interns use. You can download Windows Live Mail. For Mac users I suggest Mac’s MobileMe.
How Much Will It Cost?
Well that depends on your hosting provider. Emails can usually be purchased through your hosting provider for a small monthly amount, usually $1 – $3 extra, if they’re not already included within your package or plan. Check out GoDaddy‘s email section for more information on pricing.
